The Restoration Seed Capital Facility (RSCF) is pleased to announce that its partner, New Forests acquired a 75% stake in Kolombangara Forest Products Limited (KFPL), Solomon Islands’ largest sustainable forestry business. The ownership structure also includes 20% shares belonging to Kolombangara Island Investment Limited (KIIL), the commercial arm of landowners, thus ensuring close community engagement in the future of the company.
KFPL is the only forest in the Solomon Islands that is FSC® certified. The forest spans approximately 40,000 hectares, comprising around 14,000 hectares of sustainably managed mature hardwood plantation and 26,000 hectares of primary and secondary rainforest under conservation management.
New Forests aims to enhance productivity and safety through improved systems and infrastructure, foster a capable and high-performing workforce that drives innovation and accountability, and embed sustainability at the heart of its operations through responsible forest management and meaningful environmental and social impact
The Restoration Seed Capital Facility provided support to New Forests for the due diligence of the project, therefore helping to enhance environmental and social standards.
